Hi all,
Thank you for your ongoing activities towards ending conversion therapy and retracting Rekers and Lovaas (1974). We successfully engaged with numerous presenters at ABAI and at WIBA who shared the word about our efforts to Retract Hate, and we raised a lot of awareness around what happened to Kirk Murphy and the necessity of retraction.
We also had a massive success at ABAI. During a presentation on the case for retracting Rekers and Lovaas, the incoming president of the Society for Experimental Analysis of Behavior (SEAB), Dr. Amy Odum, publicly committed to having SEAB reconsider their decision to not retract Rekers and Lovaas. This is huge!!! We’re so excited that Dr. Odum has committed to this action. It is time to thank Dr. Odum for her commitment, and continue to push towards the successful retraction of this documented abuse.
We’ve been at this for almost a year now. SEAB published their Statement of Concern, where they documented their decision to not retract Rekers and Lovaas, on October 20, 2020. October is also LGBT History Month.
Let’s thank Dr. Odum for her commitment to reconsidering this issue and hold SEAB accountable. From now through the end of October, Join us in emailing Dr. Odum and the SEAB board to ask for a public update on the board’s progress by the end of LGBT History Month this October by filling out the email template at actionnetwork.org/letters/retracthate
Thank you for continuing to support these efforts!
