Zoey Tur, the transgender reporter known for covering the infamous OJ Simpson car chase from a helicopter, is often brought onto the show Dr. Drew on Call, hosted by Dr. Drew Pinsky, to discuss current events involving the transgender community. In this capacity, Tur continually engages in irresponsible transphobic fear-mongering. Most recently, she sparked (justifiable) outrage when discussing the story about Planet Fitness' decision to revoke the membership of a woman who broke their "Judgement Free Zone" policy by complaining about a transgender woman using the women's locker room. Zoey took it upon herself to label this transwoman a "transvestite" (an archaic, outdated term Tur defined as "a man that gets a sexual kink out of wearing women's clothing"), simply because the transwoman in question didn't "pass enough" as a woman in Tur's judgment. This estimation of the transwoman's status is demonstrably false, and is a mere parroting of politicized narratives authored elsewhere for the purpose of both criticizing Planet Fitness' completely justified actions, and denigrating the transgender community; the fact that another transwoman would willingly participate in such a naked attempt at character assassination is simply unconscionable. Dr. Pinsky, if this petition reaches you, please understand that Zoey Tur does not represent the trans* community and is wholly lacking in any of the credibility necessary to act as any sort of media "spokesperson" on trans* issues. Her continued presence on the Dr. Drew On Call program undermines the show's legitimacy with the transgender community, and threatens to compromise its mission to present news stories through the prism of professionalism and compassion. For these reasons, it is incumbent upon HLN to dismiss Zoey Tur.
