You want to know what's astonishing about this whole matter? Not the fact that the bastards could get away with corrupting military documents and history- but that they are answerable to no one. Not to the Minister for Defence. Not to the Minister for Veteran Affairs. Not to the Attorney-General. Not to the Inspector-General. Not to Generals Cosgrove, Hurley or Morrison when they were Chiefs-of-Army- not that that is all that surprising. Those three have a track record of turning a blind eye- just note the number of rapes and other abuse that were committed under their watch and which weren't acted upon in any way. And certainly not to any politician, be it a Member of Parliament or a Senator- as Senators Xenophon and Lambie found out. Both had the wool pulled over their ears by the Director of the Australian War Memorial and his national historian- and neither were capable of taking them to task about the duplicity. But at least I have received an apology of sorts- see the attached letter from a current serving general of the Australian Defence Force- Maj/Gen Fergus McLachlan. Note particularly the last paragraph on that letter.....he knows how the system works. It is cold comfort. Only formal recognition by the Australian War Memorial will put an end to this matter- and allow 39 former infantrymen to have their full war service recorded for posterity.
