As per the story in today's The Illawarra Mercury (7th November 2015) my local Member, the Hon Stephen Jones MP will be asking pertinent questions on notice in federal parliament. This is a major development. Previously, a decade-old paper trail of enquiries regarding the 2nd D&E Platoon have floated between Members of Parliament, Senators and Ministers and invariably, various statute officers of pseudo-military bureaucracies have managed to deceive, lie, and/or obfuscate the facts to maintain the cover-up of military corruption that began on May 30th 1969. Now, Ministers will have to answer in Parliament and Mr Jones will either get the truth, or be mis-lead (as has already happened on one occasion). The sad fact is that it has taken me so long to get to this point- two books (a best-selling memoir, 'The War Within' and 'Anzacs Betrayed') and a number of articles and essays as well as countless letters and posts. Dr Brendan Nelson now finds himself in an invidious position- of having to defend the Australian War Memorial (which backed itself into a corner under his predecessor General Steve Gower) or maintain the lie that protects senior Army officers who were complicit in this cover-up from embarrassment. Notwithstanding this development, I have other evidence of the manner in which the Australian Defence Force treats its men and women with utter disdain as well- the use of experimental drugs in Vietnam on soldiers in select units with cavalier attitude to the effects of those drugs on the future health of those men and their families.
