Make no mistake, those within the military hierarchy will stop at nothing to protect their reputations and little empires as they've done with the 2nd D&E Platon matter. First, they corrupt documents and evidence- and there are shifty fingers galore in the military bureaucracies as journalist Dan Box ('The Australian') well knows. Then, they enlist low-life within the veteran community to attack the critic- to shoot the messenger if you like. 'Men' of the ilk of Bob Buick, Keith Tennant, Alan Price, Gary Sloane, Barry Billing, and co...almost all of them found wanting in Vietnam. You can expect to receive death threats. Enquiring journalists will be lied to about your service to steer them away from the story (as Mike Cordell of the Sydney Morning Herald learned in 1987). If you persist, then they'll sic a sick group of cowards on to you via web sites set up off-shore out of the reach of the Australian Federal Police- and you can expect to be viciously targeted by men who owe the military some favour. And i that doesn't stop you- expect violence. All this Dr Brendan Nelson is well aware of, and still he sits in his plush office at the Australian War Memorial like a fish out of water, dictated to by generals and the historians who have their own agendas, and he, blissfully unaware of the machinations.
