Hello Fellow Nurses,
OHA (Ontario Hospital Association) has denied giving nurses an adequate increase. Yet in the same instant they are now paying doctors to work as nurse extenders in critical care settings for a rate of $400 to $500/hr. Imagine if that was used to increase nurse wages during these unprecedented times. I know many trained ER and ICU nurses refusing to pick up shifts and/or quitring their jobs because the risk is not worth it. The pandemic pay of $4/hr that they gave nurses was eaten up in taxes and was a slap in the face. This payment ended last year. We are now in the third wave and the demand on nurses increased more than ever.
What is our next fellow nurses if ONA is unable to fight for us? Do we plan lay down and take this continuous abuse by the hospitals and the government?
Remember they need US...now is the time to let our voices be heard. Please share you ideas on what you think we should do?
Please read the DISAPPOINTING update from ONA attached Apr 21/21.
