Hello Fellow Nurses and Hospital Employees,

We want to share with you that during the pandemic the hospital pension plan HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan) has decided to REDUCE the amount you are eligible to receive if you decide to terminate your membership. They are now reducing the lump sum payout amount by up to 55%. THAT IS HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY LOST to nurses. For example, if you were eligible to receive $1,000,000 payout that amount is reduced to $450,000 after Apr 1 2021. This is a decision implemented by HOOPP and this is in addition to the reduction that already took place on Dec 1 2020. Please contact HOOPP and ask them why are they quietly making this change during a pandemic with no consultation from members.
