Often homeowners have no idea that they may be eligible for one of Tarion's "gestures". CPBH has been calling on Tarion for years to provide much greater transparency related to its "gestures". For example a comprehensive policy published on its web-site that covers:

- who is eligible?

- who makes the decision regarding whether the homeowner is eligible, e.g., is there a special Tarion department?

- how does Tarion ensure "gesture" fairness? (Fairness is one of Tarion's values according to its web-site.)

It's important to note that once Tarion agrees to offer the homeowner a "gesture", there are strings attached to get it - legal strings, which most homeowners don't understand.

CPBH has also been calling for greater transparency concerning these "gestures" in Tarion's Annual Report: a summary of how many were awarded that year, the total paid out, what they were for, and how much each homeowner received - of course without disclosing any personal information. 

As well, there needs to be disclosure of the "gesture" payment amount on the ON builder directory.
