On Friday, Minister Walker signaled on Twitter that he is getting ready to announce changes that the Ford Government plans to make to Tarion.

Before he was elected Premier, Doug Ford was quite clear on his position regarding monopolies.

And here is an excerpt from an e-mail CPBH received from then PC Critic MPP Jim McDonell before the 2018 election (on behalf of then Interim PC Leader Vic Fedeli) talking about the legislation that the Liberals pushed through in Dec. 2017 regarding Tarion - that favoured the PCs ending Tarion's monopoly and introducing a competitive model:

"...Taken at face value, the TARION reform legislation lacked most of Justice Cunningham’s recommended consumer protection safeguards, including independent assessment and dispute resolution and a competitive model. The Ontario PC Caucus moved amendments to that effect, and supported the NDP’s amendment to institute Auditor-General oversight over the existing TARION structure. We are on the record advocating for more flexibility in the new home warranty market and for greater independence of the dispute adjudication process, and we remain strongly in favour of legislation that would make these changes possible. Our amendments struck a balance by not abolishing the “public” warranty provider outright, but allowing the government to prescribe acceptable alternative plans from licensed insurers.."

Every sitting PC (and NDP) MPP voted against that legislation that the Wynne Government passed. The Liberals stood alone on that legislation.

But the Liberals are obviously long gone. Will the Ford Government follow through with its own legislation that ends Tarion's monopoly and brings in a competitive warranty model now that they have been elected? Many Ontarians are counting on the PCs to do just that! Far too many taxpayer dollars have been spent on studies and consultations. Far too many consumers have suffered due to stalling tactics.  Let's get on with it! #EndTarionMonopolyNOW
