The Government of Alberta ditched the monopoly model for new home warranties

Consumers get better built homes and better warranty service, because of this competition. In addition to a choice of warranty providers, compared to Tarion, Alberta provides longer warranty periods for key elements such as the building envelope (five years) and major structural defects (ten years). There is also a possible supplemental two-year building envelope warranty in Alberta; you won’t find that sort of option from Tarion, either.
