Petition updateEnd Tarion’s new home warranty monopoly NOW: Give Ontarians a choice!Ontarians have paid enough to deserve some consideration from their government
Canadians for Properly Built Homes
Apr 16, 2016
According to Tarion's own customer survey, 15 percent -- about 60,000 new home buyers -- were dissatisfied with Tarion. That's a lot of people. With an average house price of $511,967 (Feb 2016, CREA), the value of the real estate those people own is $30.7 billion. The property taxes they paid (at 1.25%) is over $383.9 million dollars. The fees to Tarion (at $1,100) would total $66 million. The land transfer tax (at approx. $6,700 each, but this varies in Toronto) paid on these properties, is approximately $402 million. These Ontarians -- all Ontarians -- have paid enough to deserve some consideration from their government. Give Ontarians a choice of warranty provider! #EndTarionMonopolyNOW! Keep those signatures coming!
