Reunite families of Legal Permanent Residents. |Reunir familias de residentes permanentes.
La causa
I am an Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) and I have been separated from my husband for months when he is only missing an interview to complete his visa process. For months now, his process has been abruptly halted thanks to Presidential Proclamation issued on April 2020. Like me there are Thousands of LPRs who are taxpayers and hard workers across the USA who are affected.
Consider adding an amendment and resume visa issuance to spouses of LPRs. Currently there's an exemption under PP 10014 for spouses of US citizens but spouses of LPRs are not included. LPRs deserve to be reunited with their loved ones.
It is uncertain when the visa ban will be lifted, as it has been extended twice already.
COVID-19 protocols and other conditions might be set in place and review issuance on a case by case basis as suggested for other non-immigrant visas in PP 10052. Suggestions for a case to be able to resume their visa issuance process before PP 10014 expires might include:
- Case already approved by NVC and only pending interview at the Embassy.
- Proof of employment for petitioner from 30 days or less, or proof of income or commitment letter from sponsor that new immigrant won't need immediate employment.
- Proof that petitioner has health insurance and is willing to include applicant as a dependent.
