PLEASE READ THIS TO THE END****
It’s time to get ready to launch petition 2.0 along with a massive outreach campaign for the newly formed Live Event’s Coalition. I wish we could really celebrate the growth of our coalition, but we are only in this position because all of us still have our backs against the wall and need more action by our Federal and State Government to stabilize our industry and families.
As you are aware, many of us still have not been able apply for unemployment, SBA loan programs and other relief offered by the CARES Act. This is only compounded by the fact many of our freelancers and small business are nearing the end of any savings, coming off the slowest income period of the yearly Live Events cycle in the winter months, and are in the direst need of financial assistance.
While there are many who might celebrate the great success of the CARES Act, our Coalition cannot share that sentiment knowing the damage that has already taken place within our industry that far exceeds any potential 8 week subsidy of payroll, possible subsidy of fixed overhead expenses and limited replacement of our workforce’s income through unemployment insurance not equipped to adequately address our industry’s needs. In short, the CARES Act is merely a first aid bandage to wounded arteries closest to the heart of our industry.
While we work to assist and support each other in navigating the difficult process of applying for various forms financial relief, we must also look ahead toward our industries fight for survival and legitimacy in national economic recovery discussions. If we do not remain vigilant in continuing to push our nation to acknowledge and address our plight we will be left to remain forgotten behind the scenes.
The Live Events Coalition remains laser focused on our industries need to have strong representative voice. In working toward this goal over the next few days you will get an update on more specifics surrounding the launch of the Live Events Coalition’s awareness and advocacy campaign for a newly crafted Request for Federal Aid specifically directed to our industry.
At the bottom of this message and now in the petition you will find our revised requests of the federal government for industry aid, which has been updated to be more focused from the original petition. We feel these requests best embody the solutions and attention our industry and families require. I personally
We truly hope each and every one of you continues to have faith in the movement we started with each of us just signing a simple petition. Without your support we would not have made it this far. While we certainly still face long odds, I have never felt more confident in any challenge I have faced in my life than for a coalition of so many poised event professionals to bend the ear of the federal government. If we can’t do it who can?
Previously, I wrote in a petition update closing the following passage and I still feel it as true now as it was several weeks ago. Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” But I would say, Margaret Mead never met several million Live Events Coalition professionals that put a few weeks of planning to saving the US economy and still hadn’t touched a roll of gaff tape… it’s time to get ready to get out that first roll and we all know better than to waste it.
Yours Truly in Flight Cases, Cable Bridges, Center Pieces and Gaff Tape,
