Friends of the Fishkill Supply Depot
28 ago 2017
At last! - - - A chance to be heard! Greetings and thanks to all the thousands of patriots who signed our petition to save the Fishkill Supply Depot from the bulldozer! We continue to work diligently towards that ultimate goal, and while the gears of government sometime move slowly, we have recently learned of a significant, but time-limited opportunity to voice our critical opinions directly to the Town of Fishkill Planning Board (TFPB). The TFPB is currently permitting an additional opportunity for the public to provide written comments pertaining to the ongoing “environmental” review of the Continental Commons development proposal. Please note - this “environmental” review encompasses numerous issues that might not be considered “environmental” by most people, such as the archaeology of the site, how the commercial development will impact traffic, water quality, plant and animal habitats, and the economy of the immediate area. As such, we urge you to contact Mary E. Hendricks, Planning Board Chair and Members of the Planning Board, at the Town of Fishkill Planning Department, 807 Route 52, Fishkill, NY 12524 by 4 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017 with written comments only (not e-mails, etc). [Twelve copies are required for submission, unfortunately] Here are some examples of issues that we feel are worthy of submission: - A resident of Van Wyck Lake Road voicing concern over an anticipated increase in vehicular traffic at the intersection with Route 9. - A resident of Snook Road raising concern over the impact that the Continental Commons development will have on the fresh water aquifer in that area. - A supporter of preservation questioning a new retail center in a historically under-performing area of Fishkill, where vacant buildings presently exist and at a time when in-store shopping is on the decline. - A volunteer on past digs at the Fishkill Supply Depot shares information on items recovered in the area of the proposed development and how there is a potential for many more artifacts. - A descendant of a Fishkill patriot objecting to the construction of a retail center in an area known to contain bodies that have not yet been fully-examined or researched. While many of these suggestions are geared a bit more towards local residents, supporters from out of town, out of state, and even out of country are heartily encouraged to submit their valuable input as well! Just please remember to keep it respectful, since the Town of Fishkill officials are not “the enemy”, but they do hold the power to help us achieve our goal of preserving this historical treasure! For more details, read the official notice found at the attached link Thanks again for your support, and, as always, please consider sharing (or re-sharing!) this petition with friends, family, co-workers, etc., especially if you have not done so in the past. Sharing can be done through the social media tools above, email, or by good old word-of-mouth (all you have to say is ‘search for “Fishkill” on Change.Org’)! You can also promote this petition if you are so inspired (click on the red "Promote this petition" above, to do so). Huzzah!
