The issue

The 7-hectare Visy site is the last publicly owned riverfront space in Brisbane’s inner city yet to be redeveloped.

Its future must be shaped with transparency, long-term vision, and genuine community input.

By signing this petition, I call on the Queensland Government to:

  1. Keep the Visy site in public hands, and
  2. Deliver a South Bank 2.0 legacy project that serves current and future generations.

Done right, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create a lasting legacy for Brisbane - delivering social value, community wellbeing, and ongoing public income for decades to come.

Once public land is gone, it is gone forever.

South East Queensland’s population is growing faster than anywhere else in Australia and is expected to reach 4.5 million by 2032.

The current South Bank precinct already attracts 14 million visitors each year, contributing around $900 million annually to the economy and supporting more than 8,100 jobs.

Our growing region needs a South Bank 2.0 - a visionary public precinct that provides:

  • Green space and parkland
  • Education and schools
  • Transport connections
  • Health and community services
  • Recreation and cultural facilities
  • Truly affordable housing

Publicly owned land should not be sold to plug short-term budget gaps.

Add your voice and help protect community outcomes for this vital riverfront site.

I say YES to green space and social infrastructure on the Visy site — a true South Bank 2.0 legacy project for Brisbane.
