The Issue

In a new drastic move, the Trump administration has initiated a policy that would cancel Social Security numbers of migrants with legal status in the US.

This action targets individuals who entered the U.S. legally under programs such as the CBP One app and humanitarian parole, stripping them of their ability to work, access banking services, and secure housing.

As of this week, DOGE handed over the names of over 6,000 legally residing immigrants. As NYT reports, the list included a 13-year-old and seven other minors, raising fears inside the agency that it was overly broad, according to one person familiar with the list who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive information.

They were placed into the Social Security Administration’s “Death Master File,” - a system usually used for deceased people.

This new move is not only undermining the legal status of the migrants but also pushing them towards “self-deportation” by removing essential economic lifelines. It is an abuse of power with severe humanitarian consequences.

We are calling on Trump and DOGE to immediately stop revoking social security numbers of legally residing in the US migrants.

We want an independent investigation into the legality and ethics of this policy.
