HEREFORD BUSINESSES and FAMILIES are under huge pressure. Footfall is down, costs are up — and proposed 8–10% parking fee hikes risk pushing shoppers elsewhere, damaging local shops, local jobs, and the life of our city centre.

Herefordshire Council has listened and agreed to introduce FREE 30 minutes on-street parking in Hereford — and we welcome it. This is a step forward.

The Council is also offering the first 30 minutes free in its car parks — then you pay as normal after that. But it is not enough.

Now we must finish the job.

We still need a fair deal that actually saves the High Street:

Thirty minutes helps quick stops — but it won’t change behaviour. People need time to browse, meet, eat, and spend. One hour free is the difference between “I’ll come into town” and “I’ll go elsewhere.”

Hereford deserves parking that attracts visitors, supports families, and keeps spending local — not a model that relies on squeezing the people trying to keep the city centre alive.
