Don't mutilate 9 Mile in Eastpointe!

Don't mutilate 9 Mile in Eastpointe!
The Issue
Eastpointe's Mayor and City Council recently took steps toward eliminating half of the driving lanes on 9 Mile Road between Gratiot and Kelly. This proposed change will cause traffic headaches for local residents and endanger the community.
This critical artery of our city serves as a lifeline for residents, businesses, and first responders. The proposed reduction in lanes will cause detrimental effects on our community and must be halted immediately.
9 Mile facilitates essential travel for hundreds of people daily. Reducing its lanes will lead to unbearable traffic congestion and pose severe challenges to emergency services, putting residents in danger. Public safety officials from the police and fire departments have explicitly stated that this change will increase emergency response times, jeopardizing our lives and property.
Businesses along 9 Mile rely on accessible roads to serve their customers and receive deliveries. The reduction in lanes will impede their operations, leading to economic losses and potential closures, jeopardizing local jobs and amenities.
We strongly urge the mayor and city council to reconsider this ill-conceived plan and focus on alternative solutions. In collaboration with the community, we can address traffic concerns without compromising the functionality and convenience of 9 Mile.
Therefore, we, the undersigned, call on the Eastpointe City Council to halt their so-called "road diet" scheme. We demand a more thoughtful and comprehensive approach to traffic management that preserves our city's lifeline while ensuring efficient mobility for all.
Sign this petition to protect 9 Mile and the well-being of our community.
