This levee-protected area in Great Neck is in jeopardy and residents in the community are asking for your help. Tomorrow, Wednesday August 9, 2023 Virginia Beach Planning Commission will hear a request by Wycliffe Church to remove their Religious Use of this land and return it back to Housing. Their builder's site plan includes building homes on the infill of Lake Conrad 2, part of Great Neck Lakes AND part of the city's Storm Water Management Facilities. If all land-owners on Great Neck Lakes were permitted to fill in their part of the lake, the only thing left to drain water off of Great Neck would be this red-outlined area. Where will Great Neck's water go when this levee and levee-protected area become infill? Onto Great Neck Road and into the properties of Great Neck Estates, Great Neck Manor, The Reserve, and Laurel Cove. At a time when your taxes are going towards expanding retention ponds in Ashville Park, Bow Creek, and Chic's Beach AND building new ones on Shore Drive, this shouldn't even be possible. Please write to mcoleman@vbgov.com and ask her to share your concerns about the city approving the destruction of this levee-protected area, Lake Conrad 2. Homes belong on land, not on top of lakes.
