The Issue

It’s like an episode of Yellowstone but real. Warren Buffet and Berkshire Hathaway, owners of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway want to build a giant railroad hub engulfing the rural community of Wittmann, Arizona on three sides.

To see the full extent of what is at stake, please view this compelling documentary entitled “The Lost Cowboys.” Take the time it is extraordinary.

This $3.2 billion behemoth would encompass more than 4,000 acres, destroying Wittmann’s unique open spaces, clean air, and cowboy culture that has managed to survive the urban sprawl that has destroyed so much of Arizona. The men, women, and families who live in Wittmann, many of whom raise horses and livestock, need your help to save their community.

They are trying to convince the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to change the zoning which would essentially destroy this proud rural Arizona community, as open spaces, grazing horses and donkeys, and clean air give way to warehouses, air pollution, and the threat of toxic waste spills from speeding rail cars. And in a state that is in a drought with serious water conditions, this project only compounds problems.

Please sign our petition and ask the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to reject this rezoning effort which amounts to a giant subsidy for a billionaire and a billion-dollar corporation at the expense of Arizona’s heritage and cowboy culture.

In addition to signing please consider emailing Maricopa County Supervisor Debbie Lesko and ask her to vote no.
