The South Bay's high population density plus the possibility of an earthquake or terrorist attack make HF use in Torrance and Wilmington a risk too great FOR ANYONE to tolerate. Come march this Saturday! Let the AQMD know our community demands a Rule 1410 replacing modified hydrofluoric acid (MHF) with a safe catalyst before it's too late. The AQMD needs to do the right thing. We oppose the “Initial Rule Concepts” announced 1/20 giving nearly a decade to add yet more HF “mitigation” systems with NO HF BAN. More HF mitigation measures and an 8-year transition period are not acceptable and DO NOT PROTECT PUBLIC SAFETY. This is the road followed in past failed attempts to eliminate the hazards of HF alkylation. There are no “failsafe” HF mitigation measures, as our experience with modified HF (MHF) shows.
