⏳ 4 DAYS LEFT: if we don't object it’s 15 concerts FOREVER.
Dear Neighbours,
As of this evening, 3,912 of us have signed our community petition! We are so close to breaking the 4,000 mark, which sends a massive message to the council.
I am writing to you tonight to appeal directly to anyone who is still sitting on the fence about leaving a formal comment to object to the RFU’s planning application on the council portal.
🗓️ The Richmond Council planning page closes for good in exactly 4 days, this Thursday, 27th August.
🚨Right now, our biggest goal is converting our petition signatures into official objections on the council’s website.
🎯Our goal is to get a minimum 10% of our petition numbers logged as formal objections on the portal before it closes.
If you are thinking, "I’ve signed the petition, so I’ve done my bit," please understand that we absolutely intend to submit this petition but in order to have your voice individually heard, formal objections must be logged directly on LBRUT’s website.
🚨Why this matters: Planning permission is FOREVER. This is not a temporary trial. Under UK planning law, once a "Change of Use" planning permission is granted, it permanently attaches to the land title forever.
It stays active no matter who owns the stadium.
If this goes ahead, here is exactly what our community stands to lose permanently:
- Our summer freedom: We lose 15 nights of our short summer window to loud stadium sound-checks, heavy bass thumping, and shouting crowds that will ruin the peace of our evenings and home lives. Not to mention the days setting up beforehand and loading out stage trucks after the concerts.
- The health of our children: We lose our clean air. Traffic gridlock will leave thousands of car engines idling right outside our doors, forcing us to keep our windows shut on hot summer nights just to avoid breathing in toxic exhaust fumes.
- Our safety and right to come and go as we choose: We lose control of our streets. Constant event-day road closures will keep us trapped in our own roads, making it a struggle to get home from work, go to the shops, see family, or ensure that emergency ambulances can get through to local families when every second counts.
- Our neighbourhood is already at its limit: Our local roads and Twickenham train station are already at their absolute physical limit. This massive commercial expansion will permanently saturate our public transport, leave crowds spilling into residential areas late at night and bring anti-social behaviour right to our front gates.
If we stay silent, the stadium could win the right to run massive music events on our doorsteps night after night, every single summer, and our community will be forced to absorb the fallout forever.
