Don’t drain our dreams: Save Ayr diving pool from closing

The Issue

South Ayrshire Council has announced plans to discontinue diving at the Citadel Leisure Centre, a decision that would result in the closure of Ayr Diving Club, which has been part of the community since 1964.

This citadel contains the only diving boards in the west of Scotland and is one of only four pools in the entire country with diving facilities. Closing it would remove access to the sport for a large part of Scotland, forcing athletes to either train or travel a 170-mile round trip.

For over 60 years, Ayr Diving Club has provided opportunities for people of all ages to learn, compete, and stay active. The loss of this facility would not only end a historic club but would also mean the loss of diving as an accessible sport for the whole of the West of Scotland.

More than that, Ayr Diving Club creates a positive environment for young people aged 5-18 to be active and socialise with one another. Creating friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

We urge South Ayrshire Council to reconsider this decision and protect an important sporting facility with decades of history and community value.

Save Ayr Diving Club. Save diving in the West of Scotland.
