Our fight to save Camp 30 isn’t over — and it’s not just about one building. 💪

The Cafeteria may have sparked this movement, but our goal has always been to protect all of Camp 30’s remaining heritage buildings, each one holding a vital piece of Canadian history.

📣 This Monday, October 27, Clarington Council will discuss an offer from Kaitlin Homes that could change everything. Kaitlin currently owns the land and the remaining buildings at the historic Camp 30 site. If Council accepts the offer, ownership of the property would transfer to the Municipality of Clarington, allowing the Jury Lands Foundation to continue its efforts to save this nationally historic site — entering a new chapter in restoration and preservation work.

One of those buildings is the Triple Dorm — where German prisoners of war staged several escape attempts, including one successful breakout during the Second World War. Camp 30 is also the site of the only battle fought on Canadian soil during WWII — the Battle of Bowmanville. These remarkable events unfolded right here in Bowmanville, and their stories must be preserved for future generations.

This could be the turning point we’ve all been working toward. If the transfer is approved, it would open the door for real progress — stabilizing the structures, protecting them from further decay, and ensuring the stories they hold continue to educate and inspire.

We need to show that Canadians near and far care deeply about this site — and that its preservation matters.

Please continue to share this petition and encourage others to sign before Monday’s meeting. Every signature helps amplify our collective voice and sends a clear message to Council: Camp 30’s history is worth protecting.

Thank you to everyone who has stood with us so far — your support is making a real difference. Together, we can ensure that Camp 30’s story — and the lessons it carries — are never forgotten. 🇨🇦
