The decision of dehorning is nothing but reflects the massive failure of government of Assam in protecting and managing the one horned rhinoceros - the pride of Assam which is included in the “Schedule-I” of Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act. 1972.

The decision to dehorn the heritage animal of Assam is against the spirit of conservation of nature. This is unethical and violation of right to the life of wild animals. Government is not the owner of the forest and wild resources. They are just like a near trustee. Its role is to protect and improved the resources by providing proper security and natural justice. The government cannot take any decision arbitrarily. The decision of dehorning the rhinoceros has reflected the massive failure of the department of forest & environment and the government of Assam as well. They are just trying to take a short cut to hide their failure.

The horn is the only identity and significant of Assam Rhinoes and even of Assam in global context for which people from all over the world rushed to our place. If this kind of brutal decision of govt. of Assam would take a shape than we would lose our identity, revenue and many more.

We appeal to the Assam Government to drop the proposal to dehorn the rhinos and protect the glory and identity of the state.
