Don’t Close Our Preschool — Save KU Chatswood for Our Children’s Future

The issue

As a local parent, I’m heartbroken. After more than 40 years serving our community, KU Chatswood Community Preschool is being quietly pushed out of its home at 7 Victor Street — without even a whisper of community consultation.

This isn’t just any preschool. KU is a not-for-profit, warm, nurturing place where generations of local children have taken their very first steps toward school. It’s affordable — often just $13 a day — and staffed by educators who know our kids, our stories, and our hopes.

My daughter Kate and her friends learned how to push themselves on the swings at KU with the help of Chantelle and Jade. My son James loves to come back to visit Kathy and Fran to tell them his latest jokes.

This preschool gave our kids confidence, language, and joy — not just babysitting, but a real education with heart.

But now, Council has chosen to hand over the site to a private operator. That means more fees, less access, and the end of a precious community institution that so many families — especially single parents, part-time workers, and culturally diverse households — rely on.

We’re not asking for much. Just fairness. A voice. A chance to protect something that truly matters. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

If you believe in early education that’s accessible, trusted, and community-based, please sign this petition. We must show Council that KU Chatswood Community isn’t just a service — it’s part of who we are.
