Save Tin Pan Alley
Jun 6, 2016
Despite 2013 published promises from Lawrence Kirschell of Consolidated Developments to keep a recording studio in Denmark St, the oldest recording studio of its size in the country closed on June 1st 2016 at the basement at 22 Denmark St after a continuous working life since 1954, following a termination of its lease by Consolidated. The last working studio in the street has seen some of the greatest names in music record there. We at Save TPA are saddened and disappointed to report this latest closure in a long line of music business closures in Tin Pan Alley since Consolidated became the landlord-developer. We wish the studio owner a continued working life with the studio brand at a new location in Soho sometime soon, perhaps, we hope!? Is this what Consolidated mean by being "committed to preserving and enhancing the rich musical heritage of Tin Pan Alley?" Perhaps they might actually make a definite actual written commitment that is contractually and legally binding for a change? Otherwise I'm sorry the public and the 43,000 folks across Change.org and social media sites will begin to doubt your sincerity.
