Do not deport Dominican Haitians from the Dominican Republic. Instead, create a path for citizenship

The Issue

The Dominican Republic government announced it will deport hundreds of thousands of people who were either born in the Dominican Republic or have lived there for most of their lives. Currently, the government classifies many individuals who consider the Dominican Republic their home as illegal immigrants. Even as these hard-working individuals try to prove they are lawfully in the Dominican Republic, bureaucratic mix-ups—including lost or delayed paperwork—are threatening their future.  This impending threat of deportation is unjust and it is our duty to make our voices heard. This is a human rights issue and we must ensure that all people feel safe in the country they call home. The United States must take a stand and address this important human rights issue for Dominican Haitians.
