Freedom of information refused from PSNI due to costs and time!!!! Not good enough
💜 I know I said I was taking a short break from posting for family time… but this made me angry and is too important not to share.
Today I received a Freedom of Information response from the Police Service of Northern Ireland, and it highlights exactly why this campaign is needed.
The response confirms that PSNI holds information relevant to domestic abuse-related suicide, but because there is no recording mechanism, identifying those cases would require a manual review of records. PSNI estimated that this work would take around 141 hours, exceeding the Freedom of Information cost limit, so the information has not been provided.
For me, this raises an important question.
If identifying victims takes time because there is no system in place, shouldn't that be the reason to create one!!! not a reason for the issue to remain hidden?
These aren't just files.
These aren't just statistics.
These are real lives. Real victims. Real families.
Without recognition, we cannot understand the true scale of domestic abuse-related suicide. Without understanding the scale, we cannot learn from it, improve support, or help prevent future tragedies.
