Dogs Are NOT Property, They Are Family

Dogs Are NOT Property, They Are Family
The Issue
In law, Dogs are classed as property. So when your dog goes missing, lost or stolen, The police can only act upon the law and treat your dog as lost property. Even though the majority of the police agree with you that your dog is a family member, they can only take actions in the way the law is written. We need to change this law for our furry family members and make it legal, That all dogs are classed as family members that have similar rights to humans if owned by any human. So if your dog goes missing or is stolen then the police will have to act upon this as any other missing family member.
Petition For New Dog Law Act: 2021
- Abduction/Kidnap/Stolen - Those found guilty can face anywhere from 12 months to 12 years imprisonment. Or a maximum fine of £20,000.
- Abuse/Cruelty/Neglect - Those found guilty can face anywhere from 12 months to 12 years imprisonment. Or a maximum fine of £20,000.
- Puppy Farming - Those found guilty can face anywhere from 12 months to 12 years imprisonment. Or a maximum fine of £20,000. (where multiple dogs are continually bred and the puppies sold. They are kept in poor conditions as the 'breeders' don't care for their health and happiness.)
- Dog Fighting - Those found guilty can face anywhere from 12 months to 12 years imprisonment. Or a maximum fine of £20,000. (owning fighting dogs, training them to fight, trading animals and even filming fights without good reason.)
I am not sure what strength this petition will have, But I feel it will be a start on the journey to help give our much-loved dogs a chance to have some kind of legal right.
