The Issue

I never imagined a day would come when my trust in the healthcare system would be shattered. On October 8th, 2024, due to an avoidable medical misdiagnosis, my children were removed from my care. Returned in April of 2025, after an exhausting, infuriating, and heart-wrenching battle through the broken family court system.

The worst part? We're not alone—stories of medical overreach and misdiagnosis are rampant in the United States of America.

Our nightmare began like many of the stories just like ours. We were worried about our infant and ran him to a children's hospital.  My newborn showed signs of distress so we immediately sought help. At Children's Mercy Hospital, in Kansas City, Missouri, we sought answers and assistance but received speculation, judgement, and incomplete care based solely on assumption.

This medical negligence led to a misdiagnosis that threatened our family's well-being, most notably my children, who were reipped from their safe home and pushed through four different foster homes in a month.

The hospital's focus was not on uncovering the genuine medical cause behind our child’s condition. We were relentlessly accused rather than listened to. It took seeking out actual medical experts across the country, to finally receive the horrifying truth. Children's Mercy had misread the x-rays and overlooked the rapid growth that had occured in my son, leading to bones that were not as strong as they should be. They also completely missed his craniosynostosis, a condition that could lead to severe health and skull developmental problems if not caught early enough.

Children's Mercy actions ignored an oath to do no harm and pushed my entire family through a traumatic process that will have lifelong impacts.

It’s time for systemic reform and accountability. Medical providers should never diagnose a crime as serious as child abuse when abuse is not something that can be diagnosed with complete certainty.

Our medical system must reform how it handles such situations, ensuring that no family endures what we and thousands of others have at the hands of child abuse pediatricians.

By signing this petition, you’re demanding that hospitals everywhere take responsibility and implement measures to prevent future misdiagnosis and medical overreach, most particularly from child abuse pediatricians.

Let's ensure this never happens to another family again. Please sign and support our call for change.
