Olivier Lextray a lancé cette pétition adressée à Al Presidente de la República de Perú, al primer ministro

SPANISH / FRANÇAIS

To the President of the Republic of Peru  and to the prime minister :

DO NOT CLOSE THE CASE OF Olga Sanabria De La Torre.

ARREST THE CRIMINAL AND BRING THEM TO JUSTICE.

TO START HEALING THE DEEP WOUND IN OUR FAMILY

TO SHOW PUBLIC OPINION BOTH LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL, THAT IMPUNITY DOES NOT EXIST IN PERU.

Olga’s case: The taking of life and dignity

On March 1st 2012 a hired killer fired three shots and murdered my wife. This happened in broad daylight at the school where she worked; San Marcelo in San Martin de Porres, Lima (Peru). She was Olga Sanabria De La Torre, a 42-year old dual national (Peru and France) and mother of two young children (aged 9 and 11). The killer calmly escaped.

The investigation is on the point of being  closed because the authorities are not requisitioning the necessary evidence. Why aren’t they interested in solving this case?

  • This murder caused shock in Peru to the point of reaching 8th place on the list of the worst crimes in 2012. (http://archivo.elcomercio.pe/amp/sociedad/lima/asesinatos-peru-ocho-crimenes-que-causaron-mayor-conmocion-2012-noticia-1516814 and the initial interest of the authorities managed to identify the suspects, but later changes in staff responsible for the investigation (police, prosecution, judge) resulted in the investigation being practically paralyzed. One cannot fail to notice that these changes occurred at the crucial moment, when the first investigators were about to produce evidence incriminating the suspects. At that time, some witnesses were subjected to pressure and my lawyer was threatened on the phone.
  • In December 2012 there was an attempt to close the case. This failed because of media pressure among other things but so far the Peruvian authorities haven’t obliged the suspects to hand over documents that are essential to solving the crime, nor have they taken into account my lawyer's legitimate demands.

Isn’t the fact that this death occurred inside a centre for Peruvian education serious enough to insist that justice be done and adequate measures be taken, both for my family and for all those who live there?

I, her widower, and our children have all these months suffered pain, incomprehension, indignation, helplessness - a misfortune difficult to put into words. These appalling events were made worse by the fact that Olga’s corpse was retained in the morgue for 16 months by judicial order and was finally delivered to me in a plastic bag because it was literally falling to pieces.

We need justice to start healing our deep wound.

At the IVth  International Anti corruption conference closing ceremony, the 11 October 2013 in Lima, the Controller of the Republic of Peru, Fuad Khoury, declared that “...corrupt people in Peru are not afraid because impunity persists...”. The prime minister Cesar Villanueva, in his declaration before the Congress of the Republic the 21-11-2013 stated as well that “...we clearly assume that the exercise of politics and the government’s actions must be supported by the principles of transparency and efficacy. The government will fight every illegal network, every dark power, every intent of resurrecting corrupt and mafia practices which, in the recent past, have caused pain and shame to the country. I am convinced that in this endeavor, we will be together with the Parliament. We know that in this case, as well as in others, actions must be clear and forceful...

Let’s make the murder of Olga Sanabria De La Torre serve to move from words to deeds and to demonstrate to  local and international public opinion that such impunity does not exist in Peru.

Please sign my petition and ask the President of the Republic of Peru,  and the prime minister, not to close the case, to arrest the criminals and to ensure that justice is done.

                                        THANK YOU VERY MUCH !
