The Issue

Connecticut DOT project #0100-0182 will reconfigure interchange 62 of the Wilbur Cross Parkway, which has entrance and exit ramps on Dixwell Avenue. This stretch of Dixwell Avenue has average daily traffic of nearly 16,000 vehicles and more than one hundered homes in the surrounding neighborhoods. The traffic volume and speeds and lack of sidewalks make pedestrian activity in the area unsafe, even though there is a commercial area with many restaurants and services just a half mile down the street. According to DOT's Complete Streets Manual, pedestrian facilities should be provided on both sides of the roadway, but this project includes no such sidewalks east of Barton Drive despite the safety and connectivity they would provide between the residential area to the east and the commercial area to the west.

Please sign this petition to ask Connecticut DOT to consider building sidewalks all the way to Ridge Road as part of project #0100-0182. It will be delivered to the project manager at the end of the public comment period on April 4, 2024.
