25 เม.ย. 2021

As of Sunday, April 25, 2021, Sebastian Acosta has not yet been charged with a second felony cruelty charge.

As of Sunday, April 25, 2021, Sebastian Acosta is not on the April or May Grand Jury schedules.

DPD was advised by the DA's office that the DA would file the second felony cruelty charge. Normally, this is done by Law Enforcement but, DPD will not do that in Acosta's case since they have been assured that the DA will take care of the second charge before the case goes to the Grand Jury.

The Dallas County DA was provided with our petition of 27,000 signatures. (We are now at nearly 35,000 signatures). The District Attorney has not responded to our correspondence on behalf of all petition signers.

Below is a copy of the email that was sent to the DA.
If you would like to personally, ask the District Attorney to address these concerns, he can be reached at John.creuzot@dallascounty.org or Kathleen.childs@dallascounty.org
You can also contact County Commissioner Judge Clay Jenkins at dcjudge@dallascounty.org

District Attorney Creuzot:

On the afternoon of April 7, 2021 the advocate group Dowdy Ferry Animal Commission, obtained video evidence that two Pyranese-mix puppies had been bludgeoned to death on Dowdy Ferry Road. On April 8, 2021, they released the video and audio which identified the abuser as Sebastian Acosta.

Over the last six years, through citizen patrols, street and shelter rescue and targeted advocacy campaigns, Dallas citizens have invested considerable time and tax dollars to ensure our Dallas animals are protected and fully prosecuted by the District Attorney. Before your election, you and I spoke at length about deficiencies within both the Dallas Police Department and the District Attorney’s office which were keeping cruelty cases from obtaining the appropriate time, professionalism and attention they require.

In 2018, a case of animal cruelty was filed by the SPCA of Texas (Arnold, Carl – M1848656 and F1800783) wherein nineteen dogs were removed from a property in southern Dallas. Five dogs were dead, one dog was bleeding and lying in its own waste in a small dog crate and, according to witnessed, had been in that condition for more than 48 hours, another dog had to be euthanized as its organs were shutting down from starvation and the remaining dogs were in varying states of extreme neglect. After the arrest, advocates met with DA Johnson and the ‘Cruelty’ prosecutor and asked that additional felony charges be brought. We were assured that additional charges would be brought before Grand Jury . They were not.

We finally have an animal cruelty unit within the Dallas Police Department that sends twice as many cases to the District Attorney as had been accomplished in the past. We need your help to ensure that these cases are charged properly, that the animals of Dallas County are safe from predators and abusers and that cruelty charges are pursued to the fullest extend allowed under Texas statute. The Dallas Police Department has indicated willingness to file charges that are more appropriate to the cruelty crimes they encounter, but can only do so with the cooperation of your prosecutors. The rampant, unaddressed problem of animal cruelty in Dallas can only be mitigated through cooperation between the Dallas Police Department and the District Attorney.

With regard to the case of Sebastian Acosta, we are asking you to take the following measures:
1. Charge Sebastian Acosta with one count felony animal cruelty for each puppy he bludgeoned to death.
2. Instruct your prosecutor to seek the maximum felony penalty of ten-years imprisonment to run consecutively, not concurrently, for each felony animal cruelty charge.
3. Impose bond stipulations and probation restrictions that require Sebastian Acosta to not be in possession of any animals, nor reside in any domicile containing an animal.
4. Instruct your prosecutor to refuse to abate or ‘bargain away’ charges or sentencing in exchange for information or a 'plea'.

Attached, you will find more than 25,000 local citizens and nation-wide advocates who are watching this case and the actions taken, and not taken by your office.

Please join with us to protect Dallas animals by honoring our requests in the case of Sebastian Acosta and applying the underlying governing principles outlined herein to all Dallas County cruelty cases.
