Disqualify Mariam Shengelia from Eurovision 2025!

The Issue

Mariam Shangelia – Georgian representative for Eurovision 2025

On March 14, the Georgian broadcaster GPB revealed their representative for Eurovision Song Contest 2025 held in Basel, Switzerland. It is Mariam Shengelia with a song called „Freedom”.

Mariam has strong ties to government in Georgia and pro-Russian party "Georgian Dream". She is NOT a representative of Georgian people but regime authorities. „Freedom” is also a strongly politicised entry which mocks the anti-governmental protests and its lyrics contains anti-European allusions.

Here are the translated lyrics!

This case is pretty similar to Belarus in 2021 when the regime Belarusian broadcaster attempted to send a pro-Lukashenka band Galasy ZMesta with a propaganda song called „Ya Nauchu Tebya (I'll Teach You)” which was also mocking the anti-governmental protests.

Allowing such entry like „Freedom” will bring a contest into a disrepute. An artist supporting regime singing about freedom should not be let onto an Eurovision stage. Eurovision is supposed to unite people through music and it should not be used to spread the political propaganda. It is also important to take care about other artists' safety and well-being.

I have created this petition to highlight the problem about Georgian broadcaster GPB trying to use Eurovision for political agenda instead of listening to the voice of the people and picking a worthy representative. If don't want this song to be allowed onto the contest or if you stand with Georgian people fighting against the regime reign of "Georgian Dream" party, please sign this petition! Also, make sure to share it on your social media accounts so the more people will see this. The more signatures this petition gets, the bigger chance is that EBU will take the appropriate actions and suspend GPB from participating in this year's Eurovision Song Contest.
