Dismiss Ms. Adams from Newport High School
Dismiss Ms. Adams from Newport High School
The Issue
We are seeking the dismissal of Ms. Adams from her position at Newport High School in Bellevue, WA. There have been numerous complaints regarding her teaching methods. She makes it extremely difficult to pass the class due to the way she grades (a 2 is a C but also a 50%, makes it extremely hard to get up) and rarely gives out 4's, so it's extremely difficult to get a 3.5 (an A). This difficulty to get an A in her class is further amplified by the rare option to retake, and the extremely quick pace of the class. Many students have voiced there concerns on this class, which is sophomore composition and literature and should not be difficult to the point that barely anyone has an A. Last year, many students in her class would be so heavily affected by just one bad score on a project that there grade could drop an entire letter grade. The impact on student morale and academic performance cannot be overlooked.
She also is extremely inconsistent with her grading, with multiple students with similar levels of proficiency in their work receiving drastically different marks. Additionally, assignments won't be weighted correctly, like how a 3 week lesson is worth the majority of our current grades.
This way her grading system is extremely unfair to the students, and offers no room for any mobility in the grading system. Many students are now forced to bear the burden of a grade not reflective of their effort and skill level just because of her, a single teacher. We would strongly advise for Ms. Adams to change her policies so that there are chances to improve your grades with hard work. Many of her peers have grading systems that both encourage students to push themselves while giving opportunities for better grades. It is the teachers job to make sure that everyone understands, and if many students, even if they pay attention, are unable to do well, it should reflect the competency of the teacher, and students should not have to bear the consequences.
Therefore, we urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action for the betterment of our children's education. Please sign this petition if you believe in creating a nurturing and effective learning environment at Newport High School.
