Disclaimer on Sexual Content Featuring Deceased or Struggling Models

The Issue

To all providers of adult entertainment, including but not limited to video producers, streaming platforms, and photography studios:

We are requesting that you implement a mandatory disclaimer for any videos, photographs, or suggestive content featuring deceased models or those known to have struggled with mental health issues while working in the industry. This is a crucial step in fostering transparency, awareness, and respect for the individuals who work in adult entertainment.

Why is this important?

Many families of those who have passed, or are struggling, do not know their loved ones were involved in this industry. The realities behind the cameras are often hidden from public view, and for some, the effects of their work linger long after they have left the industry—sometimes with tragic results.

This petition asks that the following points be included as part of the disclaimer:

Acknowledgement of Mental Health Struggles: If the model in question was dealing with mental health issues, particularly if they were still active in the industry despite these struggles, a clear disclaimer before viewing the content should state that fact. For example, in cases like Dakota Skye, where the individual was suffering from depression and substance abuse, this should be disclosed with respect and care.

Acknowledgement of Deceased Models: If the model is deceased, especially due to drug overdose, suicide, or other health issues exacerbated by their time in the industry, or reasonably speculated to be, this should be made known. It is very unethical for consumers to continue to view the content of models who have died of drug overdose or suicide from their life in the industry, or after the industry.

Clarification of Industry Impact: The disclaimer should also include a brief note that acknowledges the potential impact of the adult entertainment industry on a model’s mental health, substance abuse, or long-term wellbeing. The culture surrounding adult content often fails to address the human cost, which can lead to exploitation, trauma, and ultimately, loss.

A Call for Respect and Dignity: These women, men, or otherwise identifying as such, are not objects, but human beings with families, dreams, and futures—often cut short due to the pressures of an unforgiving industry. If the word "no" had been heard earlier, especially for models struggling with substance abuse, depression, or other mental health issues —if they had been given the opportunity to leave, to find healing, to seek support—perhaps these women, men, or otherwise identifying as such, could have gone on to live long, healthy, and fulfilling lives, filled with family and joy.
By implementing these disclaimers, we hope to:

  1. Raise awareness of the hidden struggles that many models face.
Honor their lives, their humanity, and their dignity.
  2. Provide transparency to viewers, particularly those who may be unaware of the struggles these individuals faced behind the scenes.
  3. Help prevent future tragedies by emphasizing the importance of mental health support, respect, and care for those in the adult entertainment industry.

Let’s not allow the stories of these women to fade into obscurity without recognition of the hardships they faced, and ultimately, the lives they lost.

We owe it to them, their families, and future generations to ensure that no more lives are needlessly lost to the dark side of the industry.
