Disband TPUSA at Texas A&M University at Galveston
The Issue
As students at Texas A&M University at Galveston, we feel it is time to voice a growing concern on our campus: the disruptive presence and activities of TPUSA Galveston. Over the past several months, their tabling events have resulted in students feeling unsafe, unsupported, and uncomfortable in what should be a safe and welcoming environment for learning.
While universities should encourage diverse ideas and conversation, it is important that these conversations happen in a manner that respects the well-being and safety of all students. Unfortunately, the actions of TPUSA at Galveston have strayed from respectful dialogue, prioritizing shock value, “ragebait” tactics, and unethical values that contradict their own mission of “civility over division.”
Many students at TAMUG have experienced firsthand the division these activities have caused on campus. TPUSA’s activities on campus have been oppositional to the university's core values that we strive to uphold. This is not about limiting free speech, but about ensuring that students can learn in a supportive environment free from hostility.
There are previous situations where educational institutions have successfully managed similar issues by fostering dialogue and inclusivity without compromising the safety and peace of their student body. Disbanding TPUSA at Galveston is an actionable step toward protecting our students' mental well-being and preserving the educational environment that TAMUG promises.
We urge the administration of Texas A&M University at Galveston to consider the voices of its students seriously. Disbanding TPUSA will send a strong message that TAMUG is dedicated to upholding a secure and productive learning environment, free from hostility. Let's stand together in prioritizing the well-being of all TAMUG students.
Sign this petition to demand that TAMUG administration take decisive action in disbanding TPUSA at Galveston and ensure a safe, supportive campus for everyone.
