I have contacted multiple DPI offices about why Shark Nets are still used in Newcastle and asked that they remove them. Sadly, all I got were message banks which advised me that they will call me back. When I do get a response from them I will let you all know their reasons for holding onto such outdated technology and when they plan to remove them. For those who want to ask their own queries and/or increase the pressure to respond, the most relevant office email is port.stephens.office@industry.nsw.gov.au.
Summer holidays officially start next week and the beaches will soon be busier than ever. I plan to start advertising the petition through posters around Newcastle, especially at coastal locations to bring awareness to local residents about this ongoing issue.
