ALERT - Defenders Plan "Destroying" Endangered Sea-Turtle Nesting Habitat

Citizens ScienceChapel Hill, NC, United States

Jul 29, 2016
Endangered Sea-Turtle Nesting Habitat Destroyed due to a 1999 Adaptive Coyote Management Plan. Defenders current Vice President co-authored this plan which prescribes the trapping and sterilization of mature Coyotes which are then released within 10.8 Miles of Endangered Sea-Turtle Nesting Shoreline Habit.
This self-centered human intervention scheme, defies nature and humanly alters the natural landscape. Current data shows the number one cause of Sea Turtle Nest Depredation is Coyotes. National Parks Service trapping data shows Coyotes were first trapped on this critical nesting shoreline in 2009, increasing by 400% by 2011. Over 250 Nest Depredating Carnivores have been purposely released contributing to this massive loss of active Sea-Turtle Nest.
