Animal Control Units for every Regional Corporation and #JusticeforToro

The Issue

Our cat Toro was mauled and killed by two dogs on 10 May 2020. The offending dogs strayed from their home on the corner of Jade Gardens and Emerald Drive up to our home at the top of Carnelian Gardens, and jumped over our neighbour's wall to attack our cat.

In the days after Toro died to date, we contacted every agency and individual possible in the search for help. During this time we realised the significant gaps that exist between the laws (relating to animal control), the police, the Regional Corporation, the TTSPCA and citizens. Those gaps need to be closed. This petition is the first step on the road to the reality of a humane society.

  • If you believe that the dogs that killed our cat, or any animals where you live, have been a nuisance in the area and a danger to human and animal life, sign the petition.
  • If you believe that every Regional Corporation should have an Animal Control Unit, staffed with animal welfare experts and municipal police officers, dedicated to the care and protection of animals, enforcement of the law and the education of citizens, sign the petition.
  • If you have responsibility for animals and believe that all other animals, owned or straying, are valuable and deserve to live their best lives, sign the petition.

This petition will be sent through the Councillor Keeda James and Chairman Symon de Nobriga who will then raise it with the Inspector in charge of the Municipal Police in Diego Martin as well as the Council of the DMRC for further action.

My husband Garth and I thank you on behalf of Toro and all animals in need of care and protection.
