We, the students of Downers Grove South High School, feel that after the most recent mass shooting in Umpqua Community College in Oregon, there needs to be a major change regarding our country's gun laws. As teenagers who strive for better education, we need to feel safe in our schools, rather than scared that someone could bring a gun with the intention of harming us. Instead of focusing on better lock-down drills, we feel it would be more beneficial to focus our attention on better gun restrictions. Unfortunately, we realize that we are not old enough to vote yet, but we are the future of this country, and we want to take a stand. This is not what America is about. Too many young lives have been lost, and we want that to end. If it was your child, a change would've already happened. You have lived your life to the fullest, now give us the chance to do the same.
