Established in 1965, Dibrugarh University claimed itself to be the fully residential campus. But the administration has failed to provide the same. As a result, more than 60% of the student stays in private PG whose rent has been skyrocketing. This is a serious concern for the authority who has never paid any attention to even before pre-COVID days.
All the students evacuated their hostel after a government order on March 15. Time has passed but the university has not decided anything regarding resuming of classes and examination. For they had no other option rather than keeping their PG seat occupied. Since then students have been compelled to pay the PG fees by the owner. The university should know that of 12.2 Crore Indians who lost their job, there could be many parents whose child is studying at Dibrugarh University. Paying outstanding hostel dues has become a serious problem for such families/ students.
It is known to everyone, where this COVID-19 pandemic put our country, and also the threat it has brought with it. So, we request the university administration to kindly look into the matter and take the necessary actions/ steps as early as possible. Or next time will sleep on the sidewalk of the University.
