The Issue

We are petitioning to keep our children safe by asking Devon county council to install a variable speed limit along a short section of the main Exeter road in Dawlish, before and after the Elm Grove Road junction, we would also ask for the installation of flashing 'children  crossing' hazard lights near the zebra crossings, and that these are activated during school times. We would expect the lower speed limit to be enforced at peak school times, just like like many other schools in the UK.

There have been a number of devastating accidents on the zebra crossings, involving pedestrians crossing the road to go to and from school, both in the morning and afternoon.

We are sure that by reducing the speed limit at peak times, and installing 'school crossing' flashing lights, this would help focus drivers' attention on the scores of children and adults crossing the main Exeter road. This focus will help lower the number of accidents and the severity of injuries.

We will be sending this petition to Devon county council as soon as we have enough signatures to get our voices heard..
