The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has long been a central figure in perpetrating acts of terrorism and undermining global security. Established after the Iranian Revolution in 1979, the IRGC has since evolved into a powerful multi-faceted entity that exerts significant influence not just within Iran but globally. Its activities include coordinating with terrorist groups, human rights abuses, and destabilizing regions through military entanglements and support for dictatorial regimes.

For decades, the IRGC has been linked to some of the most destructive and deadly acts of terrorism worldwide. This includes orchestrating attacks against civilians and military personnel, providing financial and strategic support to various terrorist organizations, including Hezbollah and Hamas, and playing a key role in the proliferation of weapons across volatile regions.

In 2019, the United States, under the administration of President Donald Trump, rightly designated the IRGC as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO), acknowledging its role in furthering Iran's malign influence across the Middle East and beyond. However, many other nations and international bodies have yet to take this critical step.

We call upon those governments, including our own, to label the IRGC a terrorist organization officially. Doing so not only aligns with evidence and the existing precedent set by allies like the United States but also curtails the IRGC's operational capabilities through international sanctions, financial restrictions, and diplomatic measures. Such a designation would constrain their ability to finance global terrorism, thereby ensuring enhanced global security.

Moreover, designating the IRGC as a terrorist organization sends a strong message of support to the individuals and groups inside Iran who suffer under the repression exerted by the IRGC. These individuals risk their lives to stand up against human rights abuses and are continuously oppressed and silenced.

Global security and stability require bold and unified action against one of its most potent threats.
