The setting of the Birmingham Council budget today is an incredibly difficult day for our city. But 15,000 Brummie and adopted Brummie voices have spoken so far to seize their 'I'm Spartacus' moment and stand for The Electric, The Crown and Station Street.

Our History. Our City. Our Future.

We see our campaign as non-politically aligned. It is by Brummies. For Brummies. And all those who love The Electric, The Crown and Station Street; wherever you are from.

That said we would like to thank Cllr. David Barker (Lab) for taking an early interest in our petition, The Electric and Station Street. This afternoon he formally presented the petition to the council. And has asked that this leads to specific action within the council to review planning policies so we can safeguard heritage assets like The Electric and reduce carbon emissions from needless demolition. We would also like to thank Cllr's Liz Clements (Lab) and Izzy Knowles (LD) who both also reached out personally to talk about our campaign.

This isn't the end though. Just because our voices have been presented to council doesn't mean our long walk to defeat Sauron is over. Not by a long shot. Keep sharing, keep emailing your political representatives, keep being noisy Hobbits. We're beginning to formulate our next steps. From just a Brummie with a Twitter account to 15,000 signatures in 5 days.

Today is a difficult day for the city of Birmingham. So what can you do?

Your support for us has been overwhelming, but please take a moment today to support the other incredible people, campaigners and campaigns in your communities. There are so many worthy causes in your communities right now. Find something you believe in and catch your own lightning in a bottle moments. People make a city great.

Got a local community asset you think deserves saving? Go to Save Birmingham to check if your local assets can be registered as Assets of Community Value.

This is still just the start of a very long journey to protect our Shire from destruction though*. We await the listing decisions from Luzy Frazer (Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport of the United Kingdom) on The Crown. And Historic England's assement of recent listing applications on The Electric.

Thank you for the last 5 days. Now lets roll our sleeves up and get to work.

Long Live The Electric.
Long Live The Crown.
Long Live Station Street.

Darren

*I know The Hobbits return to an industrialised Shire in the books. But lets just ignore that bit. If Peter Jackson can drop it so can we.
