Say No To Desborough Council Tax Excessive Price Rise

The Issue

Desborough has seen the biggest council tax rise in the local area, an increase of over 8%. Paying even more than Kettering, which has many more amenities and facilities. The Town Council have 'proposed' some things they would like to do with our money

* A new skate park at the Grange

* Improved parking for the town

* New play parks for the Loatlands ward

* Cleaning up the pocket park

*Traffic calming

After having spoken to my own 'youth' a skate park isn't a main priority. Having somewhere decent to go would be. After speaking to other adults, and raising my concerns at the Town Council Meeting, more parking is not something that is key for this town. A park in the Loatlands ward is much needed, but the Town Council have no definite plans for where this will be.

The Desborough council tax precept (bill spread over the residents in form of council tax) for Desborough has been raised from £67,000 in 2015/16 to £350,000 for 2016/17 but there are no solid concrete plans to do any of the proposals!

I suggest the council tax precept is dropped by half for 2016/17 and then next year, once things have been properly agreed and we have proof that the Town Council are going to do things for the Desborough people, that the Desborough people want, take the other half in 2017/18.

This petition is to voice our concerns and contest the amount of Council Tax we are going to be charged by Desborough Town Council.
