Good morning!
Toronto's City Council officially approved the Bloor West Complete Street Extension yesterday afternoon by a 21-1 vote! It has been a moment years in the making thanks to the tireless dedication of the City of Toronto’s Cycling & Pedestrian Unit, various members of City Council, and – most importantly – all of you who have signed the petition and/or advocated for safe streets over the years. This decision means we will see the Bloor bike lanes extended from Runnymede Road to Aberfoyle Crescent later this summer in Phase 1; followed by a Phase 2 extension from Aberfoyle Crescent to Resurrection Road next year.
While we look forward to riding the Bloor West extension soon, I encourage you to thank your councillor for supporting the project. Of course, unless you live in Ward 2 (Etobicoke Centre) whose councillor – Stephen Holyday – was the lone vote against.
There still remains a final 4 km stretch from Six Points to Mississauga to fight for. If you wish to volunteer for Community Bikeways’ “We Belong on Bloor” campaign which aims to do just that, I encourage you to reach out to them at community.bikeways.toronto@gmail.com as well as sign up for their e-newsletter at the link below. They would also like to invite you to a celebration on Sunday, July 9 (12:00 PM) at Tom Riley Park. Details to follow.

Given yesterday’s win at City Council, I will close this petition for further signatures. Thanks again for supporting bike lanes on Bloor and ride safe!
