Designate the 100th Meridian at the Oklahoma and Texas border as a national monument and the first section of a global Greenbelt Meridian.

The Issue

We are permanently returning a strip of land to nature that will exclude all human presence and influence. The 100th Meridian West passes through North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. In the USA the 100th Meridian marks the division between eastern and western climate and geography, and is remembered also for being the center of the dust bowl. A national monument in this location would establish "the first segment of a greenbelt corridor that will circle the Earth" to ensure that there is a place on Earth where life is free to exist as it has done from the beginning of time.

At the present time technological progress has allowed man to have an unprecedented impact on the environment. The 100th Meridian on the Oklahoma/Texas border consists of land intersected by roads, oil refineries, farmland, industry, and residential housing. A National Monument dedicated   to preserve hope for the future is the big idea behind the Greenbelt Meridian.

To establish a 100th Meridian National Monument at OK/TX border is to renew our faith in the purpose of life and yet to recognize Oklahoman's vigilant spirit and President Roosevelt's huge effort to save the land during the Dust Bowl era.
