Over 142k of you have come to sign and share this petition. Your support poured in largely due to social media and serves as proof that Facebook and Twitter are incredible tools that can bring together thousands of people for a common purpose. Yet, these same tools are too often used to spread hate and divisiveness. We cannot allow the negativity of a few to cause us to lose sight of what is most important for all of us in this world. The world will not forget that when disaster struck Puerto Rico, people gave of themselves even when they had nothing left to give. The people of Puerto Rico are Americans, but they are first and foremost examples of human strength and capacity for love and compassion, even when times are dark. Their fight will not be forgotten or overlooked.
Today I tweeted President Trump to ask if he would stand with Puerto Rico and the 142k+ growing number of Americans asking to give Puerto Rico the help it needs to heal.
This movement has furthered the dialogue regarding the role our government plays in protecting the interests of Americans in Puerto Rico. Here is how you can help spread our message to the decision makers:
Find your congressional representative and share this petition with them: https://www.house.gov/representatives/find/
Call the Department of Homeland Security at 202-282-8000 and ask for their support.
Call the White House at 202-456-1111 and ask for their support.
Tweet the President @realDonaldTrump and join me in asking: Mr. President, 142k people petitioned to waive shipping provisions of Jones Act for Puerto Rico for 1 year. Will you help?
